Hebi Socks - Pattern Now Available

Yay, I finished my Ravleympics project in time! The pattern was knit, checked over and over and over and over, and published on Sun 28th Feb 2010, with only a few hours to spare till closing ceremonies.

Hebi Socks

Hebi Socks

These are the Hebi socks, so named because the cable and lace pattern reminds me of the patterning on a snake's back (Hebi means snake in Japanese). It might be the green colour that looks so reptilian, but my feet did kind of look like big snakes to me :)

Hebi Socks

The sample is knit in Regia 4 fadig, in colourway no. 327, on 2.75mm needles (US size 2). I used about 1.75 balls, which is approx 402 yards (368m), but if you have two balls of Regia then you'll be fine. Of course, any fingering/sock weight yarn can be substituted. The pattern is written for a women's medium foot/leg, but if you need it to be bigger, then you can substitute bigger yarn and needles.

I would suggest using a solid coloured yarn for these socks to show the pattern. I tried it in a variegated, and it didn't really work, though of course the choice is yours :)

They're knit cuff down, and the pattern is both written and charted. The yarn overs make the pattern quite stretchy, but it's tempered by the cables twisting, so the finished socks are very comfortable.

The pattern is available to buy on Ravelry, or you can use this link to buy

I'm very pleased with these socks. The snake-like aspect was totally unexpected. I just charted and knit, and I like very much how they turned out.

Ogawa Sock Pattern Available For Sale

Ogawa Socks

Ogawa Socks

I've designed these socks, and put them up for sale on ravelry. You can buy the pattern there for £2.00, if you're a member of the ravelry site. If you're not, click here to purchase it. (Thanks to Kate for letting me know about this feature!)

When I first saw the yarn (regia color 4 ply, in shade 1936), the colours
reminded me of the stream that runs through the village I live in. I chose a stitch pattern which creates a back and forth effect, like water rippling through reeds, and designed some socks which capture the spirit of that stream.

The socks are knit cuff-down, and the stitch pattern is achieved through the use of cables or (my preference) twisted stitches. As mentioned above, I used regia colour 4 ply, but any other fingering weight yarn can be substituted. The pattern is written in one size, but instructions are given on how to customize the fit.

Hope you like them :D

I've designed these socks, and put them up for sale on ravelry. You can buy them there for £2.50, if you're a member of the ravelry site. If you're not, you can email me at the address in the top right corner (the contact me box), and we can work out another way to purchase the pattern.

I designed these socks thinking about what the perfect summer's day would be like. I imagined butterflies, one of my favourite aspects of summer, and thought about how I love to have them flying around me, being all pretty :) So I designed some socks so I could always have butterflies flying around my ankles.

The socks are knit cuff-down, and the butterflies are made using cables and twisted stitches. The pattern is both written and charted. I used Opal Uni 4 ply, in shade 1412 (pink), but any other fingering weight yarn can be substituted. The pattern is written in one size, but instructions are given on how to customize the fit.

Hope you like them :D

Spring Stroll Sock Pattern Available For Sale!

I've designed these socks, and put them up for sale on ravelry. You can buy them here for £2, if you're a member of the ravelry site. If you're not, you can email me at the address in the top right corner (the contact me box), and we can work out another way to purchase the pattern.

I designed these socks with spring in mind. Bare branches, gently bending down, waiting to be covered in a new growth of leaves. They're knit cuff-down, and the cables should be easy enough for someone who is new to cabling to be able to follow, and understand how the stitch crossing is working. I wrote the cable pattern out in words, and charted it too. I used Opal Uni 4 ply, in shade 1418 (green), but any other fingering weight yarn can be substituted. The pattern is written in one size, but instructions are given on how to customize the fit.

I'm totally excited about these socks. It's my third design to be put "out there". I hope you all like them :)

Arka Hat and Mittens Pattern Up!!!!!!

Yay! The pattern for these mittens and the hat is up on The Inside Loop, here.

I was so excited when it went up this morning, I was planning to spend all day refreshing the page to see when it came up, then it was up at 8 in the morning!

This issue of The Inside Loop is fab, and no, not just cos it has my pattern in! There are a ton of other great patterns too, and some really interesting articles. I particularly liked the article on photographing knits and yarn. It's something I need to work on and this article is super helpful! The whole magazine is great, a whole bunch of the patterns got queued!

Kate and Diane did a really great job putting this magazine together. Thank you to both, they totally deserve a rest and lot of chocolate now! Go and check it out, if you haven't already! :D

50th Post Free Pattern! The Sparkle Scarf!

My 50th post! And so I thought I'd put up a free pattern. The Sparkle Scarf!

I came up with this pattern in between Mystery Stoles, while looking for something quick and easy to make. This certainly is easy - only one line to memorize. Here's a close-up of the stitch pattern:

Materials:

I used a spare ball of mohair I had lying around (on 6.5mm needles) - the yarn looked almost grey all wound up, but as it knitted into the pattern, it suddenly seemed much brighter, and well . . . sparkly, hence the name.

Finished Size: Mine is only 7.5 inches wide by 3.5 feet long, I'd normally knit it longer, but that was all the yarn I had. I like it anyway. Of course, you can knit this pattern as long as you want, and it'd probably look good in a variety of yarns. Anyway, enough waffling, here's the pattern:

Cast on an odd number of stitches so that it's as wide as you want. I cast on 29 sts, which gave me the 7.5 inches. Your own gague will depend on the yarn and needles you use.
Row 1: *K2tog, YO* rpt till last st, K1
And rpt till the scarf is as long as you want it or you've almost run out of yarn.
Cast off.

Hope you like it!
